UPDATE: Version 0.4.6 has been released. Please see this entry or my CoppermineSC page for the latest information.
I’ve just released CoppermineSC version 0.4.3! You can download the new version or visit my CoppermineSC page for complete details about the plugin. You can also view a sample of what CoppermineSC can do. Feel free to post comments and feature requests to this entry.
New Features in Version 0.4.3:
- Added a wpdb connection reset at the end of main plugin function to help with database related errors experienced by some users.
- You can optionally enable CoppermineSC tags to work in comments left on your blog. This feature is disabled by default, but you can refer to the “New Settings” section after the jump for information on how to enable it.
- A detailed list of all changes is available.
New Settings:
// set whether or not CoppermineSC tags work in comments, comment out exactly one of the following two lines
//define ('CPGSC_ALLOW_COMMENTS', 'allowed');
define ('CPGSC_ALLOW_COMMENTS', 'notallowed');
Please let me know if you have any trouble with the plugin now that I have included the wpdb connection reset by default. As far as I am able to test with my host, everything should work without issue. However, since every setup is a little different, if you run into something I will work with you to resolve it as quickly as possible.
hi, whats about alignment of images? for example to center, left or right align an image on pages.
Comment by lemmy — September 15, 2005 @ 10:56 am
Lemmy,
Thanks for your comment. I have that on my to do list. Several people have asked about it and I plan to implement it as soon as I can. You can currently change the alignment by adding entries to your stylesheet for the class names that the plugin is using, but I plan to implement it in a much simpler fashion by letting you specifiy the alignment in the tags you use to insert images.

Brad, just wanted to comment that I love the coppermine plugin, and to thank you for all the help you’ve given me by email.
You might like to list the changes I was looking for on your site, so that anyone else who’s looking for that stuff will know how to do it (and you don’t have to spend an inordinate amount of time helping them too).
I really appreciate all you’ve done, and thank you again for the plugin. It’s perfect.

I’m playing with your plugin right know, and really enjoying the work you’ve done.
Very nice, Brad, and thank you so much.

I’ve been trying to get a photoblog kind of style to my site and have got that working reasonably well. Got it so when viewing images in the photoblog category you get a neat border around the CPG images, and next/previous navigation between the images in the same category.
One feature that’s missing though is some EXIF information which would be handy to place just under the image (or in my case just under the border). That’s something that would be good to add to your wishlist.

Hi,
thanks for your good plugin!
I want to add function like this:
[cpg_albumfullrand:4] –> inserts full size/original images in album id 4 in random order
[cpg_albumfullrand:4,10] –> inserts 10 random full size/original images in album id 4
In wich way can I make this functions?
Thanks!

First, let me just say, Excellent plugin!
I know there is an option to set a forced width for full-size images. I was wondering if there is a parameter to force the width of thumbnails displayed on posts & template, without having to change the width of all of the thumbnail in the coppermine gallery? Just curious.
Thanks again for this plugin!
Comment by Jessica — November 23, 2005 @ 5:12 pm
Ah, I figured it out. Forced the width via CSS. ;)

This is fantastic. Just installed it on twice. Windows & Linux. Both wordpress 2 and cpg 143 all is cool.
It would be great to have a dialog popup within tiny mce (in wordpress2) that allows users to select and include images and configure thumbs to display.
More than a nights work, this feature would be along the lines of the ImageManager plugin by Per Soderlind.

anyway hats off to you all and thanks so much.

I just installed WordPress 2.0 and was wondering whether or not you’re creating an update that will work with that or whether the existing one will work with it (since it’s the only place I keep any pictures any more, rather than Flickr).
Please let me know, because I’ve tried it already and had a problem, but I don’t know if I put in the wrong info and that was the problem, or whether or not it was because the plugin won’t work with the new WP2.
Thanks very much.

Jafer,
I have not tried the plugin with WP 2.0 yet, but I will do so shortly. I intend to make whatever changes are necessary in order to make the plugin compatible with 2.0. Check back in a few days and I should have a new version up. Thanks!
Comment by Brad — January 15, 2006 @ 8:30 am
Oh, thanks very much. I look forward to using it again :)

Jafer,
I just upgraded my blog to Wordpress 2.0 and the Coppermine plugin still seems to work just fine. If you are having trouble, my first question is what version of Coppermine are you using?
Coppermine released a major new version with many changes around the same time Wordpress 2.0 came out. I’m still running Coppermine 1.3.x and the new version is 1.4.x. I have not upgraded to the new Coppermine yet because they completely changed the format for their theme files and I have four Coppermine galleries and I’m still working on getting all four of my themes updated to the new version.
If you are running Coppermine 1.4.x, I strongly suspect that the issue is with Coppermine, not with Wordpress, in which case I need to get on the ball with my themes so I can upgrade Coppermine and test it out.
If you are still running Coppermine 1.3.x, please give me any info you can regarding the errors you are seeing (text of error messages, screen shots, etc.) and I’ll be happy to take a look.
I also sent a copy of this to you in an email.

Just letting you know that I got everything working in WP2 - it wasn’t a problem with the plugin, it was my own mistake with my database *duh*.
Thanks so much :)
Comment by jafer — January 17, 2006 @ 10:42 am
Ok, here I am again. It seemed that the plugin was working in WP2, but then it was causing some problems where only part of my page would show up, or the sidebar wouldn’t show.
I don’t know if that was a size issue… meaning that connecting to a separate database was too much, and I called my host and they had no answers. Except when I turned off the plugin, then everything showed up again.
Any idea? I still want to use this plugin over flickr since there are so many more options (plus I have a whole bunch of pictures in the gallery).
Maybe there’s some tweak I should be doing? I dunno. Can you offer some advice (other than to stop bugging you :)?

Hi,
Is there a tag that I can put in my post and displays only the numbnails for the albums. Not the photos in the albums just the main thumbnail for each album. I have 1 catagory and 14 albums and only want 14 thumbnails in my post. Thanks
Comment by tollyboi — January 28, 2006 @ 10:19 am
Jafer,
Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I’ve been quite busy at work. Anyway, if you are having trouble, the best thing you can do is probably to email me the following:
1) A copy of your template file for WordPress (usually index.php for whatever theme you are using)
2) View the home page for your blog and choose View Source in your webbrowser and send me that
3) A list of the CoppermineSC commands you are using that don’t seem to work properly
If you can get me that stuff, I’d be happy to take a look at it and see if I can tell what’s going wrong. Sorry for your trouble!
Comment by Brad — January 29, 2006 @ 10:02 pm
Tollyboi,
Wow, that’s a good request. I don’t think there is a single command that will do what you want. As things are right now, you can use 14 different commands, one for each album, but that’s kind of a hassle. However, I’ll add your request to my list for a future version. I think many people would find that feature quite handy. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Patching the CoppermineSC plugin…
To display a random image from my coppermine gallery inside my blog, I found Brad Guilford’s plugin CoppermineSC 0.4.3.
The installation was easy and everything seemed to be working.
But then I noticed that some thumbnails were broken. Although t…

could someone explain exactly what to add to my css file to get some padding around the thumbnail images in a post. I just don’t understand all the css stuff in the plugin text.
thanks

LOVE THE PLUGIN, so much easier than all those other ones that need 30 files and some random luck to get working!
but to my question. how would one make a line break for where it displays “view more albums” when you have 4 or 5 random pictures popping up?
the trouble i’m having is that photos that are long and not the short ones are displacing the wordpress formatting and really screwing with the template .
Comment by Mike — February 17, 2006 @ 12:06 am
Mike,
Is it possible that you could send me a screenshot of the problem you are seeing? I’m having trouble visualizing the issue based on your textual description and I bet a screenshot would make it crystal clear. I’ve also sent you an email with this same information.
Comment by Brad — February 19, 2006 @ 4:58 pm
Schu,
I’m not really a CSS expert, but I can try to help out. I think you would want to add the following to your CSS stylesheet:
.cpg_albumthumbimage {padding: 5px;
}
.cpg_catthumbimage {padding: 5px;
}
.cpg_galthumbimage {padding: 5px;
}
That will put 5 pixels of padding around each thumbnail, and you can adjust the number to be larger or smaller depending on exactly what you are trying to do.
Comment by Brad — February 19, 2006 @ 5:16 pm
I think Mike’s problem has been solved. It was an issue with the CSS for the theme for his blog (it was floating img tags).
Comment by Brad — February 23, 2006 @ 9:45 am
cool plugin. i needed it do display selected number of thumb so i’ve modified it to do so.
I’ve added new command and it look like this:
[cpg_album:4,10,5]
It displays thumbs from album 4, starts at no. 5 and it display another 10 thumbs.
If you want this modification, mail me.

My trackback didn’t show up here I think, so I’ll just mention a post I’ve made that shows how to integrate Lightbox support…

Hi Brad,
how or where do I find the album id when I want to post a pic in my blog from my gallery? I could only find it in the database, but this way was very complicated, I hope there is an easier way?
Comment by schugga — April 17, 2006 @ 6:00 pm
Schugga,
Yes, there is an easier way. Go the category that contains the album you want (or go to the home screen for your gallery or the album list if the album is not in a specific category). Hover your mouse over the thumbnail for the album and the statusbar in your webbrowser should display a URL that ends with something like “thumbnails.php?album=36″. That number at the very end is the album number you want (in the case of my example the album number is 36). Please let me know if there is anything else I can help with.
Brad

Hey Brad,
Thanks for your quick answer! I almost forgot that I wrote a comment here ;)
I’m glad that there is an easier way and it worked as you said…pretty easy. Great!
Thanks again, I have no further questions yet, but if, I’ll come back here 8)
